i75 Handset gets enhanced push-to-talk, presence management, additional 802.11 features
Enhanced Push-to-Talk, Presence Management and additional 802.11 voice features.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Significant enhancements are now available on Ascom’s FreeNET VoWiFi i75 handset with its third major release. New customers, as well as existing users, can take advantage of the new features that are offered. This is a software enhance-ment that can easily be uploaded, over the air, to all existing handsets on a network.
Enhanced Push-to-Talk offers all users a full-duplex speech path as well as the ability to quickly initiate up to 10 unique conference groups from the soft keys of their i75 handset. Each enhanced Push-to-Talk group can be configured for automatic join or prompt for participation. Full duplex functionality and customization provide enhanced functionality that no other VoWiFi supplier offers today.
Presence Management provides users with intelligent information in the event a user is un-available and therefore unable to receive critical voice calls or messaging alerts. The system can determine and reroute calls if the user has temporarily set their i75 handset to unavailable status. Users need to know why and when to call back to deliver critical information.
Additional 802.11 voice features have been added to provide standards-based fast secure roaming and 802.11e TSPEC Call Admission Control. The FreeNET i75 handset supports op-portunistic / proactive key caching allowing customers to deploy the highest level of 802.11i se-curity without the worry of voice degradation when roaming. 802.11e TSPEC allows voice cli-ents and WLAN systems to negotiate voice traffic requirements to ensure an Access Point does not become overburdened causing voice degradation.
“Ascom is excited about this major release of software for our VoWiFi handset” said Tom McKearney, VP of Marketing and Business Development, Ascom (US) Inc. “We have listened to our customers and we are providing the most requested features that add substantial value to their investment.”
